Mark your calendars now for the fourth annual Bob Wills Fiddle Festival & Contest, slated for Friday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 15 in Greenville, Texas. The event-packed weekend includes two ticketed shows: the Kenneth Threadgill Concert Series performance by co-headliners Johnny Bush and Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis with fiddler Warren Hood, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m.; and Clay Walker with opener the Jason Roberts Band featuring Texas Playboys Leon Rausch and Billy Briggs, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts will take place at the Greenville Municipal Auditorium, 2821 Washington St., Greenville, Texas. The festival also features the popular two-day Bob Wills Fiddle Contest, the G-Town dinner-dance featuring the Jason Roberts Band, free concerts, dances and other family-friendly activities honoring Texas’ legendary western-swing king Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys.
The ticketed concerts allow Greenville to showcase its proudest jewel, the newly renovated Greenville Municipal Auditorium. Built in 1939 as a Works Progress Administration project, the GMA received a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2016, including new stage rigging, LED lighting, curtains and 1,459 new seats, and its long-hidden art-deco detailing was restored. The city and private donors funded the restoration, as well as a previous makeover of the city’s 118-seat Texan Theater.
